In the UK a girl has been arrested for sharing her feminist views under the Malicious Communications Act of England. Her prejudice was the fact that she wanted "all, white men," dead. I have reason to believe that this was an arrest which goes against the Magna Carta. Under common law one has a negative right to free speech, however it is subservient to acts of parliament where it can make any law to violate freedom of speech. More over the Public Order Act makes it criminal to cause alarm or distress, incite racial or religious hatred based on sexual orientation. The Communications Act criminalizes sending a message or other matter which is grossely offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character. These are the two main acts which censor freedom of speech in the country. In the perspective of Human rights England can subject it to certain restrictions that are in accordance with law. We should continue to support parties which stand up for free speech and must look to the American First Amendment as a guide.
